If you want a picture-postcard village you can live in without a car, and still find people around in January, Burgau is usually the answer. Cobbled lanes tumble down to a small sandy cove, there is a tight cluster of restaurants and cafes, and the whitewashed centre stays lived-in year round rather than shuttering completely in winter.<\/p>\n\n
It is the most popular of the three with British and northern-European buyers, so expect a good number of second homes alongside a genuine year-round core. On price, smaller apartments start around 300,000 euros, most family homes land between 350,000 and 600,000 euros, and detached villas run from roughly 650,000 euros well past 2 million for anything with a real sea view. The walkable centre and beach proximity are exactly what carry that premium.<\/p>\n\n
The trade-off: it gets busy and expensive in high summer, and the most walkable homes in the old centre rarely come up for sale. When they do, they go fast.<\/p>\n\n
Salema is the one that still feels like a real Portuguese fishing village, fishing boats pulled up on the sand and all. It is smaller and quieter than Burgau, and because the surrounding land is protected, there is very little new building. Supply is genuinely tight, which is the single most important thing to understand about buying here.<\/p>\n\n
It suits buyers who want authenticity and privacy over restaurants and nightlife. Apartments tend to start around 250,000 to 300,000 euros, most homes sit between 350,000 and 600,000 euros, and a sea-view or fully renovated house will comfortably clear 700,000 euros. The catch is patience: the right property in Salema can take months to appear.<\/p>\n\n
The trade-off: fewer amenities, very little happening in the depths of winter, and a real chance you wait a while for a home that ticks your boxes.<\/p>\n\n
If you are drawn to big Atlantic surf, empty clifftops and a slower, younger crowd, Sagres is the pick. It is the most westerly point of the Algarve, sitting inside the Costa Vicentina natural park, so building is heavily restricted and the housing stock is smaller and simpler than the other two. This is surf, nature and remote-work territory.<\/p>\n\n
Entry apartments and townhouses run roughly 300,000 to 500,000 euros, and villas start from about 600,000 euros upward, with the park protection keeping supply low across the board. You are trading polish and convenience for wildness and space. For the right buyer that is the whole point.<\/p>\n\n
